It was organized by the Office of the Aesthetic Education Working Committee of LZPU and co-planned by Liu Qiang, head of the aesthetic education team of the School of Arts, and Long Shuangqiang, a course teacher. As one of LZPU's Aesthetic Education Immersion Series in 2025, the activity took the zodiac horse as its creative theme, integrating traditional paper-cutting techniques with Spring Festival culture to present students with a distinctive cultural experience.

At the beginning of the activity, Long Shuangqiang delivered a presentation titled "Zodiac Culture in Paper Cutting", introducing the historical origins and regional schools of paper-cutting art. He explained the symbolic meaning of the horse in traditional Chinese culture—representing perseverance and forward momentum. Drawing on examples of past zodiac-themed paper-cut works, he provided detailed instructions on core techniques such as folding, drafting, cutting, carving, and refinement. "When you cut a horse's mane, the movement should be quick yet steady to create flowing lines; when you carve the hooves, precision and strength are essential to convey stability", Long explained while demonstrating with scissors in hand. After several turns, cuts, and careful adjustments, a spirited horse with its head held high and hooves raised vividly emerged from the red paper, drawing repeated expressions of admiration from teachers and students present.

During the hands-on practice session, both teachers and students participated with great enthusiasm, picking up scissors and red paper to learn techniques such as folding, initial cutting, and hollowing under the guidance of the two instructors. Fully engaged in the creative process, participants focused on their work while exchanging ideas, experiencing the unique charm of paper-cutting art through the movement of their fingertips. Many students showcased their creativity by incorporating Spring Festival blessings and campus-related elements into the horse motifs, producing paper-cut works with distinctive personal styles. As the activity drew to a close, teachers and students displayed their creations, their faces filled with a strong sense of accomplishment.

The intangible cultural heritage experience activity titled "Welcoming the Year of Horse, Appreciating the Art of Paper Cutting" also received strong support from students of the Paper-cutting Division of the Handicraft Art Association. The event not only allowed students to experience the beauty of intangible cultural heritage up close, but also helped cultivate their aesthetic appreciation and cultural confidence through hands-on practice. Looking ahead, the Office of the Aesthetic Education Working Committee will continue to deepen its aesthetic education immersion initiatives by organizing a wider range of cultural experience activities, promoting the integration and flourishing of outstanding traditional Chinese culture on campus.
